ACADEMIC SKILLS

• Recognizes and names basic shapes: square, circle, triangle, and rectangle.

• Recognizes and names numbers 0-5, even when numbers are out of order.

• Counts to 10 aloud, with or without pointing to objects.

• Says or sings the alphabet.

• Recognizes that letters make words and have meaning.

• Sorts items by size, color, or shape.

• Identifies colors common in an 8-count crayon pack.

• Recognizes their first name when written.

SUPPORTING TK READINESS

• Teach kindness and respect for rules, property, and people.

• Engage in activities at home where your child must listen without interrupting, take turns, and focus on the same activity for 15 minutes, etc.

• Read aloud to your child every day!

• Provide opportunities for your child to experience responsibility and follow-through (perseverance).

• Teach nursery rhymes and other songs or stories.

SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL

BEHAVIOR

• Engages in play-based activities like imaginary/make-believe, team games, etc.

• Speaks about school and engages in conversation about learning new things.

• Follows simple instructions with minimal prompting.

• Seeks opportunities for independence throughout the day with small tasks or routines.

• Demonstrates independence in personal care such as hand washing, toileting, and eating/drinking.

• Demonstrates ability to get along with peers and adults without hitting, kicking, or biting.

• Can begin to share with others with minimal prompting.

• Knows and responds to their first and last name.

Is your child eligible for Universal Transitional Kindergarten (UTK)?

2023-2024 School Year

Children turning 5 years old between September 2 and April 2 are age-eligible for TK enrollment.

Children turning 5 years old between April 3 and June 2 may enroll in Early Admittance Transitional Kindergarten.

Children turning 4 years old between June 3 and September 1 may enroll in Early Enrollment Transitional Kindergarten.

Transitional Kindergarten is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program.

All students enrolled in transitional kindergarten must complete kindergarten before promoting to first grade.
